Update from N3EJL

Writer's picture: Sean SchwartzmillerSean Schwartzmiller

I just wanted to thank everyone for their participation in last night's simplex drill; these drills are good training and gives us an opportunity to see where are strengths and weaknesses are. We had 34 stations participate. We also got a few suggestions for improvements. such as:

1. Relay stations echoing Net Control, so stations not hearing NC can know what's going on.

2. Using a roll call to maintain structure during the drill/ net.

3. Rotating NC through each relay station during the drill (testing limits of who can hear what).

4. Each station that participates should also log the check-ins and pertinent information passed along; this gives you logging practice to be a net control, and it also enables you to assume net control duties should the need arise during an operation.

All are good thoughts, and between the staff and I we'll talk about these and see how they can be incorporated into our operations. And, if anyone has any comments, please send me an email. And I'll be forwarding a report to the ARRL Section leadership, and everyone participating will get training credit.

Now, on to some club business; we now have a date for our summer POTA/ picnic! It will be June 11 at Moraine State Park; our Project Coordinator, N3NWV, has confirmed the date and location for us and we'll have more information on this soon, but mark your calendars!!

Also- with regard to the background and Child clearances: there has been some discussion about whether the club will maintain a copy of these clearances. This will be further discussed by the Board, and once the Board makes a decision, everyone will be advised. Meanwhile, I encourage you to go to the club website and click on the links to obtain your clearances. They are free of charge and are easy to fill out.

And don't forget, our Fox Hunt will be taking place in April; it will be at Brady's Run Park, and we will announce the firm date within the next week or so.

Everyone have a great week!

73,
