May 2021 Meeting Update

May 23, 2021

Hello, all!

For those who were unable to make our May 2021 meeting this past Thursday, here is a brief rundown of the meeting:

April meeting minutes, May Treasurer’s report were read and approved.

ARES/ RACES report was given by N3TN.

Chief Engineer’s report was given by K3UKE.

President’s report was given by N3EJL; our VE team is in place, with a goal of offering exams quarterly. Our coordinator, Denny, KR3DX will have more as the team gets organized.

Previous business: An after-action report was given by Matt, N3NWV about our POTA activation and cookout; we had 145 contacts, as far away as Finland, and the event was attended by 26 members and guests. All in all, a remarkably successful outing, and a lively discussion was held concerning the next one! There is a lot of interest in having an outing in June; discussion centered around having a combined POTA/ Field Day event, or a separate POTA activation once again. Matt and I will be coordinating a date/ time and what kind of activation will take place, and details will be forthcoming shortly!

Lee, N3IAL, gave an update on the T-shirt order; the order has been placed and they should be in within 2-3 weeks. When they arrive, a date/ time/ location will be announced as to where you can pick up your shirts.

Under new business, Lee also advised that a new commander had been elected at the Rochester VFW and there might be issues about having meetings there. It was also noted that now that our membership has increased to nearly 50, a larger place would be better, and if the club is going to be doing VE sessions for members, then we need appropriate space. Frank, N3TN and I suggested approaching the 911 Center to have our meetings there. The members in attendance agreed and I will be contacting the 911 Center staff to ask about having meetings there. It was also suggested that, if possible, Zoom sessions could be included. That will be investigated as well.

With that, the meeting was adjourned to the post-meeting Zoom social event.

73, and keep your eyes on the website and your emails, and your ears on the repeaters for updates! Remember also, severe weather season is upon us!
